Sprint and NTELOS Extend Strategic Network Alliance Through 2022

Sprint and NTELOS Extend Strategic Network Alliance Through 2022 OVERLAND PARK, Kan. & WAYNESBORO, Va. – May 22, 2014 – Sprint Corporation and NTELOS Holdings Corp. today announced that Sprint and NTELOS Inc. (“nTelos”) reached an amended agreement to extend their Strategic Network Alliance (“SNA”) through 2022. Under the agreement, nTelos will continue to serve as the exclusive network provider for Sprint in the SNA territory, which covers approximately 2.1 million people in West Virginia and the western part of Virginia. In addition, Sprint customers will gain access to nTelos’s recently launched 4G LTE network and nTelos will have access to Sprint’s 800 MHz, 1.9 GHz and 2.5 GHz spectrum throughout the territory. nTelos plans to maximize the network experience for both its retail and wholesale customers by committing to expand and build its 4G LTE network in the SNA territory to specifications aligned with Sprint’s network modernization program.

“Extending our agreement with nTelos illustrates Sprint’s long-term commitment to enhancing competition by partnering with rural wireless carriers to provide faster networks, better coverage and more choice to Americans in underserved areas,” said Michael C. Schwartz, Sprint senior vice president of Corporate and Business Development. “The continuation of our long-standing relationship with nTelos allows Sprint to maximize our spectrum assets, reduce capital expenditures and provide our customers in western Virginia and West Virginia with expanded 4G LTE services.”

“Sprint and nTelos have been close partners since 1999, and today’s announcement further solidifies our relationship,” said James A. Hyde, CEO of NTELOS Holdings Corp. “The amended agreement will provide both nTelos and Sprint with a state-of-the-art network in the SNA territory from which each company can better serve our customers, compete more effectively and grow our respective market share. By making additional investments in our network, we expect to satisfy the growing voice and data needs of our largest customer as well as those of our retail subscribers and other wholesale partners. In addition, the agreement enhances our retail offering by providing nTelos customers with access to the Sprint Spark 4G network. We are excited to begin this next chapter of our relationship with Sprint and leverage it to find new and accretive ways to grow nTelos.”

Sprint’s agreement with nTelos builds on initiatives announced in March by Sprint, the Competitive Carriers Association and NetAmerica Alliance that seek to accelerate the deployment of 4G LTE coverage throughout underserved American communities. The programs foster a competitive 4G LTE wireless ecosystem -- reducing roaming costs for carriers and improving competition, while expanding Sprint’s coverage by giving its customers the ability to roam on regional and rural carriers’ networks.

Better Solutions, One Phone Case at a Time: Sprint Supports New Technology That Turns Greenhouse Gas into Plastic

Better Solutions, One Phone Case at a Time: Sprint Supports New Technology That Turns Greenhouse Gas into Plastic OVERLAND PARK, Kan., May 13, 2014 - Today Sprint announced it will be one of the first companies to use AirCarbon™, a new carbon-negative material made from greenhouse gas, instead of petroleum, to create plastic products. The material will be used in black and pink cell phone cases for the iPhone® 5 and iPhone® 5s that will be sold online exclusively on by late May for $29.99, plus tax. Sprint is the first telecommunications company in the world to launch a carbon-negative product using AirCarbon™.

The material, AirCarbon™, is manufactured by California-based Newlight Technologies. The company uses a proprietary carbon capture process to convert air and greenhouse gases (GHGs) into a plastic that has similar durability and performance characteristics to petroleum-based plastics. The conversion technology can synthesize high-performance thermoplastics from a wide range of sources, including methane and/or carbon dioxide from agricultural operations, water treatment plants, landfills, anaerobic digesters, or energy facilities. The material has wide applications, as it can then be formed and molded into almost any given design.

“We are pleased to introduce this new technology – essentially turning greenhouse gas into a plastic that has the potential to replace petroleum-based plastics,” said David Owens, Sprint’s senior vice president of Product. “This innovation is another example of Sprint’s leadership in providing eco-friendly products to our customers.”

AirCarbon™ is an independently verified, cradle-to-grave (including all energy inputs, transportation, and end-of-life) carbon-negative material, quantifiably reducing the amount of carbon in the air in every ounce of AirCarbon™ produced. In fact, the weight of the new cell phone case is the same weight in carbon (as carbon dioxide equivalent greenhouse gas) that has been sequestered and would otherwise be part of the air by making the case, generating a net positive environmental impact.

“AirCarbon™ offers a new paradigm in which products we use every day, like cellphone cases, become part of the environmental solution,” said Mark Herrema, Newlight Technologies co-founder and CEO. “Newlight’s mission is to replace petroleum-based plastics with greenhouse gas-based plastics on a commodity scale by out-competing on price and performance – harnessing the power of our choices as consumers to make change. We’re thankful for companies like Sprint, which are helping us realize our founding vision of taking greenhouse gases and turning them into commercially useful products that generate both an environmental and economic benefit.”

Sprint, a recognized global leader in corporate responsibility and sustainability, has a reputation for bringing sustainable options to market, including being named the most “Eco Focused” wireless carrier by Compass Intelligence. The company sees AirCarbon™ as another way it can play a key role in accelerating a more sustainable economy by leveraging its role as a large purchaser and supplier in the communications industry. The company also believes it is able to influence adoption among consumers of more sustainable products like the AirCarbon™ case, which have the potential to disrupt products or processes that have negative environmental or social impacts.

Weather the Spring Showers and Summer Fun with Waterproof Kyocera Hydro Vibe from Sprint and Virgin Mobile USA

Weather the Spring Showers and Summer Fun with Waterproof Kyocera Hydro Vibe from Sprint and Virgin Mobile USA OVERLAND PARK, Kan. & SAN DIEGO, May 05, 2014 - Just in time for Mother's Day, Father’s Day, spring showers and beach days, Sprint will offer the all new Kyocera Hydro Vibe waterproof 4G LTE smartphone beginning Friday, May 9. As we move into summer, Virgin Mobile USA will offer the Android™ device as well, without a contract, beginning May 27. Bringing this feature-rich smartphone to both Sprint and Virgin Mobile gives customers choice in how they pay for their devices and their monthly service plans.

According to recent survey data from comScore , 55 percent of people with children say they are “very likely” to purchase a waterproof phone – and for good reason. Parents report damaging phones twice as frequently as those without children.

“The demand for waterproof smartphones has only increased since Kyocera introduced the original Hydro in the U.S. in 2012,” said David Owens, senior vice president-Product, Sprint. “Hydro Vibe is the third generation of waterproof Kyocera devices Sprint has brought to our prepaid and postpaid customers. Vibe eliminates the worries of liquid damage during a day at the beach or a day on the job without having to invest in a waterproof case or sacrificing the sleek style and functionality we expect from smartphones.”

Kyocera Hydro Vibe is the newest addition to Kyocera's successful Hydro Series of waterproof Android smartphones, all of which can be completely submerged in up to one meter (3.28 feet) of water for up to 30 minutes. Built with affordable style and everyday protection in mind, Hydro Vibe features a thin bezel and Kyocera's award-winning Smart Sonic Receiver audio technology, allowing users to hear conversations more clearly in noisy environments like baseball games and loud restaurants.

“Kyocera is at the forefront of waterproof technology for mobile devices, proving that extra protection from life's accidents doesn't mean a smartphone has to be expensive and bulky," said Eric Anderson, senior vice president and general manager of global sales and marketing at Kyocera Communications Inc. "Hydro Vibe builds on the success of the original Kyocera Hydro and more than 40 Kyocera waterproof devices launched worldwide. It's a great gift idea for Mom or Dad or for anyone who wants some added protection from the elements during spring showers or summer fun."

In addition to being IP57-rated for protection against dust and water intrusion, Kyocera Hydro Vibe boasts the following features:

• Android 4.3, Jelly Bean

• 4.5-inch qHD capacitive, impact-resistant touchscreen display

• 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and video camera; 2-megapixel front camera

• Near Field Communication (NFC)-capable for easy file sharing with other NFC-enabled devices

• Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ processor with 1.2GHz quad-core CPU

• Wireless charging (PMA)

• 2,000mAh battery for longer use on a single charge, plus Kyocera’s proprietary Eco-Mode and MaxiMZR power-management apps

• 8GB of on-board memory, expandable to 32GB with microSD™

The device also will have the added advantage of running on Sprint SparkTM in markets where available. Sprint Spark is an enhanced LTE service designed to greatly improve the performance of video and other bandwidth-intensive applications. With peak wireless speed of 60Mbps, Sprint Spark enables stutter-free video chat on-the-go and mobile gaming that leaves lag behind.

Sprint recently launched six new Spark markets -- Newark, N.J.; Oakland, Calif.; Orlando, Fla.; Tacoma, Wash.; Waukegan, Ill., and West Palm Beach, Fla. Sprint has launched 24 Sprint Spark markets and is expected to reach 100 million people by the end of the year.

In addition to Sprint Spark, Sprint continues to bring the most advanced innovation in sound quality to its customers with High-Definition (HD) Voice. HD Voice is a new Sprint standard for crystal-clear voice calls. It provides a fuller, more natural-sounding voice, plus noise-canceling technology that virtually eliminates background noise from places like a busy road or crowded restaurant. 1 .
